GATX Rail Europe has completed initial operational tests of its adapted ACTS intermodal wagon, designed to support flexible waste and industrial logistics across Europe.
The railcar is based on the Sggmrss platform and equipped with four rotating frames for handling ACTS containers. Each frame has a tare weight of approximately 2,800 kg, while the wagon offers a loading capacity of 107,100 kg. It accommodates 5,950 mm ACTS containers and 20 ft hybrid ACTS ISO containers with a gross weight of up to 20,000 kg.
The rotating frame technology enables both horizontal unloading using truck-based handling systems and vertical unloading via crane or reach stacker. The configuration is suitable for transporting light bulk materials, including waste and wood chips, and is designed for integration into multimodal logistics chains.
Following the initial trials, GATX Rail Europe plans further operational validation and technical refinements of the rotating frame system to expand its range of industrial applications.
The development is part of GATX Rail Europe’s broader strategy to expand its intermodal portfolio and respond to evolving logistics requirements in European rail freight.
