Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore has ordered three four-car Stadler FLIRT electric multiple units, supported by financing from the EBRD.

Stadler will deliver trains to Montenegro for the first time, after signing a contract with Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore (ŽPCG) for three four-car FLIRT electric multiple units.

The vehicles will be based on Stadler’s established FLIRT platform, which is already in service in several European countries, including Serbia and Slovenia. The Montenegrin units will be largely identical to the FLIRT trains currently operating in Serbia.

This technical alignment should allow modern electric multiple units to operate in cross-border traffic between Montenegro and Serbia for the first time. The trains will also be adapted to the specific requirements of the Montenegrin rail network and receive an exterior design reflecting the country’s national colours and identity.

“The signing of this contract marks a historic moment for the future of rail transport in Montenegro. The new Stadler trains will provide our passengers with significantly higher levels of comfort, safety and reliability, while making rail travel far more attractive for both residents and tourists. This project represents an important milestone on our journey towards a modern European railway system,” said Dragana Lukšić, CEO of Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore.

The project is being financed with support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
