CP – Comboios de Portugal has signed an addendum to its rolling stock contract with the Alstom-DST consortium for 36 additional electric multiple units for urban services.
The base contract, valued at EUR 746m, covered 117 trains: 55 for regional services and 62 for urban operations. With the addendum, the overall fleet rises to 153 EMUs, strengthening CP’s urban capacity.
Deliveries of the new units are scheduled to begin in 2029. The amendment also advances the final delivery date for the full fleet to 2031, two years earlier than the previously agreed 2033 deadline.
The trains will be produced in Portugal under the existing contract framework, which includes the construction of a manufacturing facility in Matosinhos. The site is expected to create around 300 direct jobs linked to rolling stock production and maintenance.
