GBM Gleisbaumechanik Brandenburg/H. has signed a contract with Deutsche Bahn to modernise 20 additional GAF 100 track maintenance vehicles.
The modernisation work will be carried out at GBM’s plant in the Kirchmöser district of Brandenburg an der Havel. Each vehicle will be fully disassembled and rebuilt, with upgrades to the drive train, wheelsets, driver’s cab and loading crane.
According to the manufacturer, the programme is designed to extend the service life of the GAF 100 fleet and maintain operational performance for infrastructure maintenance tasks. The GAF 100 is used by DB for a range of track construction and repair activities. GBM has already overhauled a double-digit number of these vehicles for the operator.
The 20 vehicles included in the current contract are scheduled for delivery by 2028. DB is expected to decide within three months whether to exercise the option for a further 20 modernisations. If all options are taken up, the programme would cover a total of 65 GAF 100 vehicles.
The contract will lead to the creation of a double-digit number of new positions at its Brandenburg site, including roles in electrical engineering, mechatronics, metalworking, industrial mechanics and work preparation.
